First Visit

First visit to the dentist

A child’s first visit to the dentist should occur between at 6 and 12 months of age. There is a misperception among many parents that oral health is separate from general health and that since baby teeth will exfoliate, they are less important. However, studies show that more than 40 percent of children have tooth decay by the time they reach kindergarten! The sooner a dental home is established, the better your provider is able to prevent and manage conditions such as early childhood caries.

Prepare for your child’s first dental experience

  • Mentally prepare your child for the dental visit by instilling a positive attitude towards the visit.
  • Request a tour of our facility prior to your appointment if you think that will better prepare your child for the visit.
  • Please download and complete all new patient paperwork from our website (find these links below) and bring it with you.
  • To avoid any delays in attending to your child, please call and provide us with your insurance information.
  • Dress your child comfortably and if your child has long hair, make a loose ponytail so your child is comfortable lying down on the headrest in the dental chair.
  • Let your child have a light meal prior to the dental appointment.
