Intravenous Sedation

This is a moderate level of sedation (not general anesthesia), where patients breathe on their own. The medication is administered via an intravenous approach. Once the patient is comfortable and desired level of consciousness is achieved, local anesthesia is administered and dental treatment is initiated. To ensure patient safety, monitors are hooked up and a medical anesthesiologist is vigilantly assessing the child during the whole procedure.

When the dental procedure is close to completion, the anesthesiologist begins to withdraw the medication and the patients start to get back to pre-sedation conscious levels. It’s important to perform this procedure with a certified anesthesiologist to ensure the highest levels of safety and comfort for your child. At Little Pearls Pediatric Dentistry, that is our standard.
